Homemade Solar Power
Author: virgil sandberg
More and more people today are turning to homemade solar panels as a way to save money, and help the environment. Modern technology has made home solar power systems available to everyone. Solar cells have been around for over 150 years, but only recently have become available and affordable to anyone interested in home solar cells. The invention and improvement of semiconductors in the 1940's and 50's have led to the development of today's modern conveniences, transistors, microprocessor chips, in fact anything that's computerized or uses radio waves depends on semiconductors, as do all home solar panels. In the1950's, at the beginning of the space age communications satellites needed a reliable and long term way to be powered, the use of solar energy was the answer. This led to development funding from private companies and governments into research for improved solar cells, and made today's homemade solar cells possible.
A homemade solar power system is actually easy to build. There are several photovoltaic products on the market, photovoltaic cells are devices that convert light directly into electricity by the photovoltaic effect, the term solar cell is reserved for photovoltaic devices intended specifically to capture energy from sunlight. You do not
have to make homemade solar cells, they are readily available at surprisingly low costs. When you build a homemade solar panel, you are making a box with an aluminium or wood frame with glass on the front to protect the cells from the elements. The solar cells go in the box and you connect the wiring, and thats it. There are manuals available that not only cover the construction of the panel, but also have step by step wiring instructions, the best ones have video instructions that make the whole process of making home solar power easy.
